This position is located in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, Juba, in the Engineering Section. The incumbent will report to the Chief Engineering Section through the Operations Engineer.
Exercise overall supervision, operation and maintenance of the Mission’s facilities and services, including, but not limited to, generators, electricity supply and distribution system, air conditioning, freezer & cooler, heating system (boilers), and security facilities.
Plan and oversee establishment of a mission wide power monitoring and reporting system
Apply commonly used engineering practices and precedents in completing portions of larger projects related to the construction or repair of buildings, roads, bridges, field defenses, and other related structures and facilities in the field mission.
Participate in making and developing technical data regarding materials, quantities and costs to be incorporated into formal specifications.
Participate in making and developing scope of work (SOW) of all projects (electrical, and mechanical) and undertake technical and contractor performance evaluation.
Evaluate engineering work-requests and assign individuals or work-teams to carry out building maintenance and repair tasks, as required.
Lead implementation of UMOJA service and maintenance modules for maintenance and cost recovery.
Participate in developing the annual budget for the section
Carry out scheduled and preventive maintenance of all structures in the Mission and responsible for the provision and installation of necessary utilities.
Operate Light Armor Vehicles (LVA) in remote areas of the mission.
Perform any other duties assigned by Chief of Engineering Operations.
Work implies frequent interaction with the following: Chief/Supervisors of other Units, staff of the section, Local and international contractors including the contractor’s technical personnel, Civilian and Military UN personnel throughout the Mission.

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical or vocational certificate/diploma in Civil/Electrical Engineering, Technology, construction, project management or in a relevant engineering discipline required. Recognized and valid License in one of the trades ( Electrical installation, water supply, HVAC, construction) is highly desirable. Prince 2 foundation certification is required
A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in the field of engineering and construction including a minimum of four years of supervisory responsibility is required. Experience in international operations in a complex, volatile, conflict or post-conflict environment is desirable. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five years for candidates who possess a first level University degree. Experience working in region is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
