Job Description
- Advice on all legal issues that emanate from existing agreements and new legal documentations.
- Attend meetings to offer legal guidance and advice as requested by business areas.
- Draft and/or review letters, contracts and agreements and monitor legal obligations under agreements to ensure compliance
- Advice on matters that should be directed to the external Counsel.
- Rendering of legal advice on different issues as it affects the bank, its customers and available products.
- Conduct reviews and advice on the Bank’s policies from time to time to ensure compliance with legal and financial regulatory requirements
- Supervise the safe custody of all collateral documents for facilities granted by the Bank.
- General treatment of all garnishee processes served on the bank
- Develop, recommend, evaluate and initiate corporate policy and strategy for tenders and contracts for products and services
- Preparation and generation of periodic legal reports.
Qualification and Experience:
- Minimum education level – Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Law and Logic Bachelor (LL. B). Any relevant professional certification would be an advantage.
- Preferred candidates must have at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role in a corporate environment, legal practice or related firm.
- Technical understanding of the Bank’s business and operations
- Knowledge of Financial Law and credit transactions
- Sound knowledge and understanding of banking operations
- Excellent Oral and written communication (English and French)
- Excellent drafting and writing skills (English and French)
- Problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to cope with confidential and sensitive matters
- Good interpersonal communication at all levels
- Ability to multi task and meet deadlines
