The green painted steel buckle is the early variation with the flat cam lever, approximately dating the chinstrap's production from late 1942 to mid 1943. The buckle is secured by a United Carr rivet. This would be an ideal chinstrap for a helmet liner with either non painted or green painted steel A washers.
